Dreams Realized. Our Tulum Retreat and Tour Hero Review

Dreams Realized.

I’ve dreamed of hosting a yoga retreat ever since I started teaching yoga way back in 2015! Honestly, I never thought it was something I could “get off the ground”, it always felt like too big of a project - too many unknowns, too many barriers, too little time to take it all on. Then, my friend introduced me to the folks at Tour Hero and everything changed!

The team at Tour Hero helped me create a vision that we launched into a reality! Immediately, I knew I wanted to go to Tulum, Mexico (I had already planned this to be my first retreat someday) - but I was impressed with how many countries and locations Tour Hero is connected with. The more we talked the more I knew it would be a good fit - their mission is the same as mine: to build community. After a discussion on price points, excursions, itinerary, menu etc - the team took my ideas and curated a luxury experience that was beautifully bohemian yet artfully refined.

Yogis can get down with “roughing it” - this I know all too well haha! But I wanted something down to earth that also catered to our spoiled sides. It had been a long winter and I knew my students would be craving a complete lifestyle shift. So although we are a bunch of traveling hippies, I wanted a sophisticated lodge that would allow us plenty of space to “retreat” and plenty of extracurriculars to “do”.

The menu was also a top priority as us Yogis often require specific foods and many of us adhere to a sattvic diet or vegetarianism. Tour Hero agreed that a lodge with a private chef would be our best bet - to prioritize the nutrition needs of the guests in whatever way possible. As a coffee addict, I was adamant that coffee be available 24/7 (after the trauma of my first solo yoga trip I am paranoid that my caffeine consumption will be inhibited!).

When my retreat liaison, Maye, first sent me the information on Amaite retreat lodge - I fell instantly in love. The striking photos of the private cenote and eco-friendly geodomes caught my attention, and I quickly browsed the website to see the rest of the space. Amaite did not hold back! I was floored to see the options Tour Hero had come up with and how perfectly Amaite fit with our plans. Our lodge had a private chef with a kitchen fully equipped for pretentious western yogis haha. The spa services, done with reverence to the ancient Mayan culture (think chanting, herbal baths, sweat lodge) aligned with the deep feminine layer of connection we were all searching for on this retreat.

My only other request (besides the yoga schedule lol but I was in control of that) - was a trip to the Tulum Ruins and a large cenote. After visiting Chichen Itza years ago, I have wondered about the mystique surrounding Tulum, its southern historical neighbor…. And centoes are just incredible! Who doesn’t want to go cave pool diving?! The Tour Hero Team totally delivered! They set up all the necessities for our excursions, alleviating me of the painful task of reading reviews and contacting companies, not to mention the language barrier!

Now, planning and fantasizing about a retreat is one thing - but actually orchestrating it is another! Thats where Tour Hero really simplified things and supported me so that I too, could enjoy the retreat! The staff have excellent communication skills and frequently checked in on me, keeping a pulse on how I was feeling and if I had any questions or concerns. I couldn’t have been more impressed with the professionalism and teamwork all around!  It was a huge relief knowing I could relax a bit and someone else was handling the booking, negotiating, and logistics behind the scenes. I could then focus on connecting with my students, inviting guests on the retreat, and planning my yoga workshops. It was great being able to relax a bit rather than bearing the full burden of organizing and hosting a retreat!

Our trip to Tulum, the stay at Amaite, and the cultural experiences we enjoyed created memories to last us a lifetime! And although I know the importance of contentment and staying present - I can’t help but get excited about planning our next retreat! I am looking forward to pairing up with the folks at Tour Hero again - this time for a Wild Costa Rican Adventure! Stay Tuned!
